Contests are fun ... and may yield some great prizes
It’s not June yet, and for that reason, I can’t tell
you who won the June Dairy Month recipe contest sponsored
by this paper. We received many good entries and the
judges thought the selection of recipes was fantastic.
Look for our May 25 special section featuring the winning
recipes and information on the dairy industry, including
the Rock County and Walworth County dairy breakfasts.
Recipe contests continue to generate a good response
from cooks eager to showcase their talents. Here are
some more that might interest you.
Strawberry recipe contest
Wisconsin residents can enter no more than two recipes
that contain strawberries in the Wisconsin Berry Growers
Association contest, cosponsored by Rural Insurance Companies.
The deadline is May 31. First prize is $75.
Print or type the recipe’s title and category in the
upper left-hand corner, along with the contestant’s name,
address, home and work telephone number in the lower
left-hand corner.

Better Homes and Gardens annual challenge

Better Homes and Gardens is celebrating more than 70
years of prize-tested recipes with a grand prize of $25,000
and six category prizes of $2,500 each. .
U.S. residents, age 21 or older, are eligible to enter
their best original recipes in any of six categories: desserts,
everyday easy, good and healthy, grilling, holiday and
personal favorites. Create a recipe within any category
using any Sun-Maid, Tostitos Brand Dips or Uncle Ben’s
product to be eligible to win $2,500 from each partner.
The deadline is July 18.
Each recipe must be original and include your name,
complete address with zip code, telephone number with
area code and e-mail if you have one. Include the name
of the recipe, the category and number of servings. The
recipe cannot be previously published or the winner of
another competition. List ingredients with measurements
in order of use; include step-by-step preparation and
cooking directions.
To enter by mail, send to Prize Tested Recipes: The
annual challenge, Better Homes and Gardens magazine,
P.O. Box 7040, Des Moines IA 50309-7040. All mailed entries
must be neatly written or typed. If you submit a recipe
that includes any Sun-Maid, Tostitos Dip or Uncle Ben’s
product, type the brand name in the upper right hand
corner of your entry and on the back of the envelope.

Nordic Ware’s third annual Bundts Across America contest
United States residents who are at least 18 years old
as of April 1 are eligible to enter original recipes
for a Bundt cake/dessert that is reflective of one of
the eligible holidays, prepared in any of Nordic Ware’s
Bundt cake pans. Holidays include Valentine’s Day, St.
Patrick’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Independence
Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas.
Entries will be judged on originality, use of simple
ingredients, taste, texture, visual appearance and essay.
Use of simple glazes, sugars, garnishes, fruits and flowers
are recommended, rather than elaborate decorations and
frostings. Each holiday will have one winner. The grand
prize is $10,000.

enter online. The deadline is Aug. 1.
Cooking Light recipe contest
You can enter original recipes, using one or more of
the contest’s sponsor products, to become one of 12 finalists
who will compete in an on-site cooking contest. The deadline
is May 31. The grand prize winner will receive $20,000,
and four category winners will each receive $5,000.
Recipe categories are starters and drinks, side dishes
and side salads, family dinners and desserts.
The sponsor products are: al fresco sausage, Annie’s
Naturals Dressings/Marinades, Birds Eye Frozen Vegetables,
Bush’s Best Beans, Eggland’s Best Eggs, Kerrygold Cheeses
and Butters from Ireland, Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegar,
Newman’s Own Pasta Sauce, Stacy’s Pita Chips and Swanson
Broth.

and instruction, on one side only of a 8.5- by 11-inch
plain piece of white paper.
Sweet Rewards recipe contest
United States residents at least 18 years old can submit
original recipes using Louisiana canned hams in one of
five categories. These categories are breads and breakfast,
desserts, sides, soups and professional. One winner in
each category will receive $500; one grand prize winner
will receive $1,000. The deadline is June 1.
Your entry must include instructions, readily available
ingredients, standard measures and number of servings.
The entry must be completed on the official entry form,
found at www.louisianacookin.com. Send your recipe to
